America: A Nation of Cheaters
My Perspective
When I saw this article, the first thought that came to my mind was test-taking, but the interesting thing was how the author of this article showed how it has become so much more of a problem than just trying to place a higher grade on the test.
Cheating used to be a crime that had serious consequences during the 13 colonies. Even though that may seem extremely radical to compare the rules of colonial times to 21 century United States, at least people were held to a certain standard. When people got married it used to be a commitment for life. People worked through their problems instead of running away from their partners.
I think the main dilemna with cheating today is two things. One is it has become way to acceptable in our society. We do not want to face pain whether that mean studying hard or trying to date, so we watch porn, like mentioned in the article, or text friends to get the answers instead so that we can still receive the feelings of working through tangible issues, but creating major shortcuts.
Unfortunately, I think this is why so many people that are younger are depressed, lonely, or feel like they do not have a purpose. Their entire lives they were offered small, but consistent shortcuts instead of participating in activities that would create true emotions. At some point however cheating catches up to you in some direct or indirect form and in this case, our entire society is paying for it.
