The IPAD: the late bloomer that would double Apple's Sales (2010)

When the IPAD first came out in 2010, it resembled a bulky ipod that would not fit in your pocket, couldn't make calls or texts off of wifi, and at that time revolutionary to the maket. For years, numerous companies had tried to create the first tablet computer and failed. People only saw two avenues in the technology device market: phones and PC's.

Consumer's initial thoughts:
- lack of camera
-lack of multitasking
-Gave off feminine impression

What Do I Need it For?

Major shift:

Every major apple product has changed an industry. IPods changed the way people bought and listend to music. IPhones changed what people could expect from cell phones.

IPODs Revolutionized 5 indusutries with the simple invention of a bigger screen with a touch screen and a great IOS system

IPAD is more than just a larger iphone or a smaller MAC:

- mainstreamed the way people read newspapers and books
- mainstreamed access to television and movies on the go
- became number one toy for kid entertainment
- easiest way to take notes and record orders

The 5 top mediums I use to receive news on a daily basis definitely varies from someone that is even just 10 years older than me and dramatically different than the Baby-Boomer generation who is now retired. Although in some ways I find it disappointing that our future generations will never have the same appreciation for the outdoors, playing with kids in the neighborhood, or when it comes to news mediums a crisp newspaper from the Wall Street Journal or for my younger self on Black Friday eve, the Toy's R Us catalogs, I just like everyone younger than me could never see ourselves turning back. Even though Millenials' and Generation Z's are addicted to social media, it is interesting to see how the two generations already dramatically communicate differently especially through their choice in social media and how they perceive it.

For me, my top 5 media sources are based off usage:
1. Snapchat: Older generations see it insane that we no longer pick up the phone and only "text", but I can honestly say that is not my go to when trying to seek out what is going on in my town, with celebrities I like, or with my friends or family. Something about sending photos with text, with the conveniance of the stories allows the conversation to become more appealing for me. Snapchat also allows me to access their general location on the Snapchat Map. Inbetween snapchats, I like seeing the advertised polls and quick updates on sports or celebrity drama while waiting a few minutes for a response. The ability to receive information about what is going on in your inner circle, your local environment, and the people you celebritize while also being able to hold a conversation is what gives Snapchat a leg up on Instagram in my opinion.

2. Youtube: I would much rather watch a video than read about a certain topic. You can research anything under the sun with youtube and get a variety of hosts to choose from with varying time frames and styles where the older option a television is one bombarded with commercials and secondly limited to the shows or news being offered for that time frame. I also love that Youtube offers the suggested column. Many times I will be searching one thing and find myself watching videos for over 2 hours because their algorithms understand what peaks my interest even if I do not know to search it for myself.

3. Podcasts: Even 3-4 years ago, suggesting Podcasts would be one of the best sources of news for people would be ridiculous, but it is not only growing exponentially, but forcing big news forces to adapt to the changing times. The amazing thing about podcasts is you can listen to them anywhere and I think it appeals to the growing commuter population in the United States. Podcasts have absolutely revolutionized old fashioned radio because it is way more niche, allows way more exclusive access, but also can give voices to literally anyone that may not have been available prior but had a lot that they could teach.

4.  Online newspaper: This is fairly new to me. I used to never have an interest in the "news", but now being interested in the business world, I find it entertaining to learn about what is going on and how that could potentially apply to what I am learning in my class. At the end of the day, I would honestly choose a paper version of the Wall Street Journal over the online version, but I am way too lazy to go out and buy the paper every day. Online newspapers are also dramatically more expensive. It cost me around 3 dollars for NY Times while in the City, but only cost me $1 per year to be online subscribed to the WSJ.

5. Television News: This is probably my least favorite medium to find out the news for multiple reasons. First, the large amount of commercials between receiving the news annoys me. I generally hate advertisements and would much rather use one of the other mediums to get the information directly. Secondly, television news is very generic. You have no control over what news they report and it is generally very depressing and dark. Finally, newscasters are generally older and I would rather receive the news in a much less formal way from a reporter who is closer to my age whether they are "qualified or not" to be reporting on it.

America: A Nation of Cheaters
My Perspective

Image result for paper test

When I saw this article, the first thought that came to my mind was test-taking, but the interesting thing was how the author of this article showed how it has become so much more of a problem than just trying to place a higher grade on the test.

Cheating used to be a crime that had serious consequences during the 13 colonies. Even though that may seem extremely radical to compare the rules of colonial times to 21 century United States, at least people were held to a certain standard. When people got married it used to be a commitment for life. People worked through their problems instead of running away from their partners.

I think the main dilemna with cheating today is two things. One is it has become way to acceptable in our society. We do not want to face pain whether that mean studying hard or trying to date, so we watch porn, like mentioned in the article, or text friends to get the answers instead so that we can still receive the feelings of working through tangible issues, but creating major shortcuts.

Unfortunately, I think this is why so many people that are younger are depressed, lonely, or feel like they do not have a purpose. Their entire lives they were offered small, but consistent shortcuts instead of participating in activities that would create true emotions. At some point however cheating catches up to you in some direct or indirect form and in this case, our entire society is paying for it.

How Technology is Transforming Our Lives

I think this metaphor is genius. Whether most people realize it or not, the correlation between age and the level of technology integrated in our lives has so many more correlations like our addictions levels to the technology, an opposing level of communication in our new generations, and a decrease in kids participating in what was considered normal daily activities like playing outside. It is ironic because the more access we as humans were given to technology, in a suttle way, we thought we were being given freedom, but were completely blind to how much of a prisoner we have become to it as well. With everything at our fingertips, no one puts in the same care to memorize or truly understand topics thoroughly in the education process because we can either just look it up or chegg the answers. If we want to find out the weather, we do not even have to leave our bed.

The question I ask myself constantly is if technology was removed today, would some people be incapable of transitioning back to the old ways and would that actually have a better impact on the people that could change.

The most relatable Millenial Youtube Video

Technology has become one of the biggest blessing's the human race has ever received, but as Millenials and Generation Z, the first generations to only be alive with cell phones in and around their presence, we are seeing some extremely scary negative societal effects. Baby's are now glued to an Ipad before they turn 1 turning it into a mental glue that forms an addiction in the most critical time in a person's life. Communication skills have decreased significantly and depression and anxiety levels have surged in the opposite direction. This has led to trends like high turnover rates for new highers coming out of college and a from a management perspective a constant annoyance that employees cannot seem to detach from their devices.

In my opinion, phones and the development of social media has become so misused at this point, just like seen in the video, it is turning us into a society of addicted, un-independent sheep that would be lost without our devices. Instead of using these platforms to promote individuality it has become a place for many of jealousy and regret. The sad part it is, most of the things on social media that people long so hard for are fake. Social media allows people to feel engaged with the people they want to be around, the lives they want to live, and the sports cars they want to buy, but at the end of the day while they are spending all their time aimlessly staring at it through a screen, a few special people are out actually working towards getting closer at those goals.

As a Millenial myself, it was scary to watch this animated video because the words "facts, literally, and so true" uncontrollably kept coming out of my mouth. If you don't think you are addicted I have one test to prove to you that you are wrong:

Go to your most used social media account and delete it from your phone. How many days does it take you to stop unconsciously opening and going to that spot in your phone to click the app even though you know you deleted it. For so many, it has become so ingrained in us it has become a form of muscle memory without us even realizing. Something needs to change because at this point we are prisoners to our phone.

Maybe it is not time to go COMPLETLY VIRTUAL just yet and Here's WHY

We as a society are getting more accustomed to putting our personal and private information out in social media thinking that it is private and secure, but time after time, thousands of people learn the hard way. Database of over 200,000 phone numbers were stolen from a Facebook database that was apparently claimed to be scraped. Why is this a problem.... learn here

Ways to secure your profile:

- Keep all your account's private: if your accounts are public and hackers can obtain your phone number they can use your profiles to manipulate the stories they tell you

- Do not use the same passwords: no matter how many times people state this golden rule people neglect to change their passwords, this could give a hacker access to bank accounts and really important pieces of information

The more information you give, the more vulnerable you are!
